Hard-Boiled Egg and Avocado Toast
This Hard-Boiled Egg and Avocado Toast combines creamy, perfectly ripe avocado with fluffy eggs on crispy, golden-brown toast. It’s my go-to morning fuel that takes just 15 minutes to whip up.
This protein-packed toast will keep you satisfied and energized all morning long. Plus, it’s endlessly customizable – make it as simple or fancy as you like!
Variations & Substitutions
Try using sourdough or ciabatta instead of whole wheat bread for a different texture. For a protein boost, add a schmear of hummus under the avocado layer.
You can also incorporate different toppings like pickled red onions, cherry tomatoes, or even a drizzle of hot sauce for an extra kick.
If you’re feeling adventurous, try grilling your avocado before mashing it – it adds an amazing smoky flavor that takes this toast to a whole new level.
Tips & Tricks for Perfect Results
The key to outstanding avocado toast starts with selecting perfectly ripe avocados that yield slightly when pressed. Always mash your avocado in a separate bowl rather than directly on the toast to prevent soggy bread.
For the eggs, using an ice bath after boiling is crucial – it stops the cooking process and makes peeling much easier. Don’t forget to season each layer separately to ensure balanced flavor throughout.
Making the Recipe Stand Out
Add crunch with toasted seeds or nuts, and incorporate fresh herbs for color and flavor. Consider adding a pop of color with microgreens or edible flowers.
One of my favorite tricks is drizzling a small amount of honey over the top – the sweet-savory combination is unexpectedly delicious.
Storage & Reheating
While avocado toast is best enjoyed fresh, sometimes you need to plan ahead. If storing components separately, keep mashed avocado in an airtight container with a thin layer of lemon juice on top to prevent browning.
Hard-boiled eggs can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. For the best results, toast your bread and assemble everything just before eating.
