Variations & Substitutions

You can swap almond flour for Carbquik if you prefer a more traditional texture. For dairy-free folks, coconut cream can replace cream cheese, though the texture will be slightly different.

Sometimes I add a touch of maple extract to the frosting for extra flavor depth, or sprinkle chopped pecans in the filling for a delightful crunch.

Tips & Tricks for Perfect Results

Always use room temperature eggs and cream cheese – it makes a world of difference in the dough texture. When rolling the dough, use parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Don’t skip the resting time; it helps the dough become more manageable. I’ve learned that cutting the rolls with dental floss instead of a knife gives you cleaner slices without squishing the rolls.

Making the Recipe Stand Out

Adding a pinch of salt to the frosting enhances all the flavors. For an extra special touch, I sometimes brown the butter for the filling, which adds a gorgeous nutty flavor that makes everyone ask for the recipe.

Storage & Reheating

These beauties stay fresh in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. I love that I can freeze them for up to three months as well.

When I’m ready to enjoy them, I either pop them in the microwave for a quick warm-up or reheat them in the oven at 325°F until they’re warm and gooey. For the best texture, I always let them come to room temperature before reheating.
